So how many folks are planning on taking next Tuesday off from work to watch the transit? I for one don't plan on missing it! May the weather gods be kind to us. :)

I'm not planning on missing it either. So, we're gathering at Redfield Campus for this too, right? And perhaps this event isn't/won't be well enough known by lay persons for many to show up at the planetarium?

I personally plan on being at Redfield Campus this time around... not sure if anyone will be at the planetarium or not. Although listening to news last night the weatherman seemed to steer folks to the planetarium. Hopefully the weather will clear up by the end of the morning...figures we'd have a storm roll through for an event that won't be seen for another 105 years. :( So far not looking very good:

I watched the start from outside my office at UNR from 3:10 until about 4PM.
I went home and was clouded out until 7:30. Here is a picture using a Canon
400 mm lens.

There were several of us (Andy, Robbin, Rich, Tony and myself) that started the transit at Redfield Campus. I would say probably 50-100 people were there total. Unfortunately there seemed to be a constant cloudbank overhead. We would get occassional glimpses of the transit, but it was quite disappointing. Exasperated after about 2 hours, I finally went home down south in Washoe Valley where the seeing was much better. Andy, his family and Rich joined me soon afterward. Watched the last two hours or so before sunset. Felt bad for the folks at Redfield because it looked like the cloudcover at their location did not dissipate the entire time. It sounds like other ASN members had better luck in various locations to the north as well. All in all the transit was a rewarding experience for those that were able to see it.

At one point I went past the planetarium, and there were very few people there, surprisingly. That was during a clouded period.

And yes, it sure does figure we'd get a storm for this rare an event. I've been noting for a few years now, every time there's a rare event to see the weather clouds over. In fact, the rarer the event, the more certain the weather to misbehave. So this one was about 110% chance . But it could've been worse yet, if the transit were one day earlier we'd have been completely screwed- it was solid overcast pretty much all day.
